No fee charges or insurance documents need to provide as entering this ancient ‘hospital’ and you will definitely not get out with medicines to consume.
It was believed that anyone who would bath in the waters of Neak Pean temple would balance their physical and spiritual elements, cure any diseases and maintain health…
What a nice old-fashioned hospital. Origin of ancient Angkor in Cambodia and directly influenced and inspired after Buddhism while influenced by and mixed to Hinduism later on. (or vice versa)*
Found in Cambodia near Seam Reap, in the jungle with elephants and monkeys and small but super tasty bananas, the temple was built around 1150AC.

—And coconuts everywhere! each coconut was full of tasty super refreshing, pure coconut water. I almost filled two 500ml bottles of water out of just one coconut!!!—
4 small ponds each one represents an element and is represented by an animal, connecting to and surrounding the bigger pool in the middle, the tank with the temple in the middle of this artificial island.

The 4 pools in cardinal directions around the main pool represent:
- The North pond with the head of the elephant symbolizes the water element.
- The West pond with the head of the horse symbolizes the wind element.
- The South pond with the head of the lion symbolizes the fire element.
- The East pond with the head of the human symbolizes the earth element.
The four elements will mix up in the middle pool so as the balanced now energy will penetrate and treat the bather providing healing and balancing energy following the sacred liturgy with deep roots in Buddhism tradition. Praying, meditation, wearing specific clothing, specific music in the background and aromas.

Sounds like our ancestors knew something more about health and welfare. Definitely not a way to sell medicine or to pay an insurance company but truth and divine enough to be effective back then and carry on its message up to nowadays.
We need this kind of spiritualism definitely today.
Notice: However this is the most known interpretation of this place, there are more researches that explain things differently, for example, the artificial island represents the lake Anavatapta, the homeland of the Gods in the Himalayas, the Balaha horse is a flying horse rescuing the trader Simhala. For sure there are many things to investigate until someone can come upon certain results. There is a mix of Hinduism and Buddhism that in my opinion was the start of the end of this great civilization by the meaning that a great civilisation must stay and insist on its original beliefs in order to maintain its greatness.
The mystery is alive in Cambodia.
